The Canadian Taxpayers Federation Launching in Québec

Author: Carl Vallée 2016/02/19

MONTREAL, QC: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) announced today that it is opening up a Quebec office – giving the CTF a presence in every province in Canada. Carl Vallée, former press secretary to Canada’s 22nd Prime Minister will head up the CTF office in Quebec in addition to his current responsibilities at HATLEY.

"I am proud to be joining an organization whose sole mission is to defend the interests of taxpayers," said Carl Vallée. "For decades, successive governments in Quebec have applied the same recipe of tax and spend, while making Quebecers fund a bureaucracy that is too large."

The level of debt in Quebec is the highest of all provincial governments in Canada, representing 51.5% of Quebec’s GDP, a huge burden borne by Québec taxpayers and future generations. The marginal tax rate has exceeded the psychological threshold of 50 per cent, reaching the astronomical rate of 53.5 per cent.

"It is not surprising that the per capita income in Quebec is the lowest in Canada," added Vallée. "Quebecers pay too much tax and despite this, we rely on Equalization checks to arrive. More than ever it is necessary to defend the interests of Quebec taxpayers."
